In the spring each year, the Institutes Nobel Committee meets with the Nobel Assembly of that Institute. At the meeting all present receive a medal in silver, and again if further meetings are needed. At the final voting in October all present receive the medal in silver gilt. The recurring members can then exchange ten of these for one in gold. From 1929 on the medallion with Nobels portrait has been used.
