| Description: Byzantine Empire electrum gold Histamenon nomisma (scyphate) Isaac I (1057-59 AD). Constantinople mint. (S. 1843, DOC 2, BMC 2-3, R.2007). Obverse: Christ enthroned facing wearing nimbus, raising right hand the Gospels in left hand with Ihs XIS REX REgNANTInm around. Reverse: Isaac standing facing, bearded wearing crown and military attire, sword in right hand, left hand resting on sheath with ICAAKIOC RACILEVC PWM around. A very rare ruler seldom seen, dished as common. Ex M.R Roberts Sep 1990, Dr L.J Sherwin collection, I.S Wright Nov 1990 and Nobles S 128 Nov 2021 (Lot 2710). Extremely rare as such. EF |
